We have installed the help of a small group of 5 Year 8 students. It has been hard to start, but we are getting there. Students have been involved in discussions in their own time and have got some really good ideas in place. We are now preparing for the design hand-in deadline and fianlising ideas!

Well we're up and running with Eco Leaders from years 7, 8 and 9 coming out of our ears! Plans are afoot for a collapsed timetable on 16th March for those students to measure the carbon footprint of the College. Arrangements are also being made for a further day two weeks later in order to work with our creative agent ReZolve.

Robin Fuller is creating a work pack as we speak for year 8 tutor teams to use with their groups after the footprint has been measured in order to inform the Eco Leaders and Rezolve on their design day.

At Camborne Science and Community College, Year-8 have been learning about materials and the time it takes for them to decompose in a landfill site.  From this they have collected their own rubbish and made a range of products.

They had a very open brief and all sorts of products have been designed including picture frames, pencil pots, hats, lamp shades, skirts, and the odd pair of flip flops!

Penrice Community College’s Eco Team has made a fabulous start to the Design Challenge. The team is made up of a mixture of Year 7 and Year 8 students who attend the college’s Eco Club every week giving up their own time to think of ways that Penrice can become as green as possible!

We are currently busy working towards the Eco Challenge with two DT Year-8 classes, who have shown great enthusiasm. We are busy collecting data through a ‘theme of the week’ tutorial activity that has involved all tutor groups in the school. We have had lots of comments from students and staff who are surprised at how much time some materials take to decompose.  One tutor reported: '…they have all vowed to go home and ask their parents to re-use carrier bags and to ensure lights are switched off when not needed.' Enough said!
