The Dott Cornwall Eco design challenge is a competition for Year-8 pupils, or equivalent, in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly; it was conceived to encourage Year-8 pupils to think about design and sustainability.
Year-8 pupils must enter the challenge with the support and guidance of a teacher from their school.
Once registered, the school can access and use the teaching and learning materials developed for the challenge from www.ecodesignchallenge.co.uk.
If a school decides to register but doesn't then go ahead, they should tell the Eco design challenge team as soon as possible.
The deadline for pupils' design briefs will be in March 2010; the project team will judge and pair them with a design, business or sustainability mentor. Independent individuals will then judge the final submissions in July 2010.
Where the mentors are invited into schools to assist with pupils' work, they are the sole responsibility of the school concerned and The Eco design challenge will not be liable for their health and safety whilst on site at the school.
We recommend that mentors always work alongside a teacher and pupils, and not in isolation with a pupil or groups of pupils.
The Eco design challenge retains the right to amend or change the rules of the challenge at any point.
